Are you looking for a great way to impact people and the community? Consider volunteering at the Dogwood Literacy Council. Our tutors are volunteers from the community who give some of their time to meet, help, and teach students who are developing their literacy and/or language skills. We have had tutors from age 18 to 85 coming from all walks of life – retired teachers, accountants, housewives, military, students – anyone with a willingness to help others is welcome. You do not need to speak a second language to tutor. All materials and instruction is in English. We are always looking for tutors to help out in classes or one-to-one tutoring sessions. We will provide training and textbooks for classes. A few hours a week can make such a difference in someone’s life.
Tutors are asked to commit to teach one semester at a time. Tutoring occurs in two hour blocks. Times available include: Mon-Thurs mornings from 9am-11am and Tues & Thurs evenings from 6pm-8pm.
Requirements are to have a high school diploma and be at least 18 years old.
