The mission of Dogwood is to provide free literacy instruction to the Siloam Springs community. Literacy is the ability to read, write, and understand information well enough to function in everyday life. Today, literacy often includes more than just reading and writing. It can also refer to:

  • Digital literacy — using computers, phones, and the internet
  • Financial literacy — understanding money, budgeting, and banking
  • Health literacy — understanding medical information and making informed health decisions
  • Civic literacy — knowledge and skills needed to understand how government and society work
  • Workforce literacy — skills needed to succeed on the job, like reading instructions, following procedures, and communicating with supervisors and coworkers.

In a broader sense, literacy is about having the skills and confidence to navigate the world, participate in your community, and reach personal goals.
