Executive Director: Leah Ellcey
Leah serves as Executive Director of the Dogwood Literacy Council, where she leads efforts to provide free literacy services to adults in the community. She is passionate about helping learners build confidence, gain practical skills, and open new doors through education. Known for her welcoming spirit and constant smile, Leah strives to make every learner and volunteer feel comfortable, valued, and at home. Leah holds a degree in Family and Human Services from John Brown University. Outside of her work, she enjoys life with her husband, Dave, and their five children and is deeply committed to serving her community both professionally and personally.
Assistant Director: Brandy Cowell
Brandy is an educator with a deep passion for literacy, curriculum design, and creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity and growth. She brings years of classroom experience teaching social studies and language arts, where she focused on helping students strengthen reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. She holds a Master’s degree in American History from Pace University and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from John Brown University. In addition to her professional work, Brandy is deeply involved in her community and church, where she has served in multiple teaching and leadership roles. She also previously served as a tutor and board member for the Dogwood Literacy Council. Above all, she is passionate about nurturing a love of learning—not only in students, but at home with her own two sons as well.
