Dogwood Literacy Council’s board of directors did an outstanding job of welcoming the guests at the Open House held on October 25, 2022, to celebrate the council’s move to its new location. The event had a mayoral proclamation. The chamber of commerce held a ribbon cutting to celebrate our Open House.
We had about 60 people come and enjoy the Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 25
The board put out a great snack spread complete with spiced cider and Abuelita’s hot chocolate.
Tutors, board members, former tutors, and other volunteers also welcomed visitors to the event.
Thank you Balloon Closet for the autumnal-themed balloons.
Thank you Arvest and Sam’s Club for the donation of our raffle prize. Shannon won a Samsung tablet.
Last Wednesday, Dogwood Literacy Council received a generous donation of laptops from our friends at Simmons Foods. Chris Greathouse and Nick Braschler brought us 11 laptop computers to use for the GED program and in the English as a second language program.
This donation could have not arrived at a more perfect time. Just this Monday, we had to ask a couple of GED students to come back at another time because we did not have enough computers for them to practice on.
As of today, we have them set up and ready to go for GED classes.
Thank you so much to Chris, Nick, and everyone at Simmons Foods. Your donation will impact countless lives!
